Why have underfloor heating
As you might suspect, an underfloor heating system is installed under the floor. The heat is spread evenly around the room by heating every inch of the floor at a low temperature (which is comfortable to walk on). Underfloor heating is available in two different types: electric and water.
Electric or ' dry ' underfloor heating utilizes a number of electrical cables or electrical heating sheets to heat the space either from below or inside the floor.
Water or ' moist ' underfloor heating systems circulate warm water under the ground through boiler tubes which heat up the space. You can use them to power the system if you have a solar water heating system or an air source heat pump.
So, you can live your entire space without radiators on the walls with underfloor heating. Even the most modern radiators take up space on a wall, so imagine the freedom of design with heated floors.
Evenly heat the whole room
Underfloor heating is not just about keeping your feet warm and nice so you don't have to wear slippers, they're going to distribute heat from floor to ceiling evenly. Units of some size can heat even a bigger region than radiators.
More space around the home
You may be amazed at how much more room you can take advantage of by simply removing radiators. Choosing underfloor heating over radiators gives you the liberty to push sofas, drawers or bookshelves against any wall you want.
Underfloor heating can be fitted under many different types of flooring, including:
- Stone
- Tile
- Laminate
- Vinyl
- Carpet and rug flooring
Although it can be fitted on all these separate floors, there will be variations as to how rapidly and effectively the heat transfer to the ground will take place. You will get the best results from a surface that has good conductivity like tile or stone, but for just about any type of flooring there will be a compatible system.
